Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)
Short description of error
If e.g. we have a GN node tree with various objects distributed, and we introduce a Bake node, the Cryptomatte information of all the separate objects disappears, and you can select it only as one single object, regardless if you hit the bake button or not.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Distribute multiple different objects in a collection in a GN node tree, add a bake node, without even using it, enable Cryptomatte, hit render.
Hi @Slowwkidd , thanks for the report. Could you attach affected file? I'm not able to replicate this in 4.2
Hi @PratikPB2123. here it is, I did it using 4.2 and happens the same thing. Make a render and see how with cryptomatte all the separate distributed obejcts can be selected, then add the bake node at the end of the node tree and render again.
BTW, while doing this I discovered another bug related to Cryptomatte: #121480
Thanks. I'm actually observing same issue as #121480 in the provided file
Thanks a lot @PratikPB2123. Although the other bug (black objects) makes it harder to understand, I made a video to show the process more easily.
Bake node need to store instances in a file, so this is expected that instances can be not really object rather than just kind of geometries.
Geometry nodes do not supposed to work as way to generate random objects. If cryptomatte store info in object, this is expected and not supported by geometry nodes.

@mod_moder I would totally understand if the bake node was actually used, but as you can see in the video, simply putting a bake node in the tree without even baking causes this. Is this also expected?
Even if there is no actual bake, this node still perform some changes to make result the same as it will be baked.
