Blank screen on startup #125015

System Information
Operating system: Windows 11
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 4050 laptop gpu
HP Omen 16-wd0990tx - i5-13450H

Blender Version
Broken: 4.2, 4.1
Worked: None

Short description of error
I made a clean installation of the app. Tried both latest studio and game ready drivers of Nvidia. But when opening the app, there is a blank screen rendered. In places the mouse changes modes to crosshair and window adjust, but there is no visual. Pressing control S opens up a visible save prompt.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

No .blend file, this is a fresh install.
Install latest blender through .msi file
Open the app

Selecting "NVIDIA GPU only" in Nvidia control panel would fix this, can you check?

I have tried doing this on Nvidia control panel, Nvidia App and Windows graphics settings. I still get the same result. Any other possible solutions?

Thanks, try reset of gpu settings, clean install of gpu drivers. This is likely the problem introduced with drivers installed along with OS update.
Launching blender on iGPU might work.

Hey, I am trying that right now, but as I said, I had freshly installed the studio drivers from the Nvidia App. I don't believe there were any OS updates after that. I will try out iGPU anyway. Thanks

Hi, I was able to get it to run on my iGPU. I am doing a clean reinstall of my drivers so hopefully that will fix the issue with my dGPU.

Launching blender on iGPU might work.

I was able to get it to work on the iGPU, but the dGPU is still having a problem after a clean install and multiple reboots. Any way to fix this?

Hi, @PratikPB2123 I found another person with the same issue on this reddit post. Aparently this still hasn't been resolved. Any other possible solutions that might help? Maybe a setting that is causing this?

I doubt this will work since I have seen posts from a guywith driver version 555.99 with the same issue. I don't think that is the solution.

I doubt this will work since I have seen posts from a [guy](https://www.reddit.com/r/blenderhelp/comments/1d9tg3q/blender_start_with_a_blank_screen_gpu_driver/)with driver version 555.99 with the same issue. I don't think that is the solution.

Hey @PratikPB2123 , any possible solution for this problem? Or any extra info needed? I'm not sure how to get the logs for blender, otherwise I would have done so. Thanks for your help

Hi, I'm out of ideas, unfortunately. We haven't been able to replicate this locally with similar GPUs. So far "black/grey screen" problem has been reported on HP omen laptop.

Oh, alright. If you are not able to use an HP omen for this, could you maybe help me out by instructing me on how to check the logs? Hopefully there is something there which shows at least what component is causing the error.

Hey @PratikPB2123, Is there any course of action you would recommend now? I really need to get my blender working for a project and I don't want it to run on my iGPU. Is there anyone else I can contact in order to get this fixed? Or anyone you can move this onto if you are unable to fix it?

Hi, you can check event viewer or reliability monitor, they might have captured the error.
Does it work with if you launch blender from following batch files: blender_factory_startup.cmd or blender_debug_gpu_glitchworkaround.cmd. If still failing, share logs generated by them.

Did you observe freeze/crash in other 3d software or games?

tbh this looks less blender oriented bug. For others, updating gpu driver resolved this and for some users, system update introduced the issue. Maybe you can try contacting hp support (assuming it has been observed particularly on HP omen laptops) and microsoft forum as well.

Hi @PratikPB2123 , surprisingly a new windows update came out today or so. It was "Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Insider Preview (10.0.22635.4000) (KB5040546)" and an intel display update. This seems to have fixed the blank screen issue! Tysm for all your help
