I'm trying to find another crash with the debug build, but ran into this instead.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Run Blender through a debugger
  • Make sure GPU subdivision is on

Also checking with 3b4debd285 and can not reproduce with RX 550 on Linux. Can you try with GPU subdivision off?

This also only seems to happen with a debug build, sorry I didn't realize that. Added that to the report now.

With GPU subdivision off, the crash does not happen. If I turn GPU subdivision on with a subsurfed mesh on screen, it crashes just the same.

For me it just happens with default startup file. Since the stack trace is mentioning GPU code, I wouldn't be surprised if it's specific to my system, I guess? I'm here in Amsterdam so maybe I should just show it to one of the devs upstairs? Jeroen, Clement, Sergey? Not sure who might be most relevant, but I can ask around at lunch! 😂

The issue was that our debug builds were picking up GLEW for the OSD debug lib. I now made sure that it doesn't do this anymore. (The OSD GPU backend crashes if it tries to use their GLEW backend)
