System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19045-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series ATI Technologies Inc. 4.6.14830 Core Profile Context 22.6.1 27.20.20913.2000

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.2.0, branch: blender-v4.2-release, commit date: 2024-07-16 06:20, hash: a51f293548ad
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Heavy lag when zoomed in on the model in Viewport Rendering (Material Preview or Rendered) + No proper texture rendering despite being set up right.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Use an existing model
  2. Turn on Viewport Rendering
  3. Zoom into the model (Strangely enough, this issue sometimes disappears or reappears when switching windows)

Hi, thanks for the report. Re material rendering issue: #124984 is to look at.
Re performance: adjusting pixel size might help: Performance > Viewport > Pixel size. Can you check?

Pixel size does improve the performance but that was not an issue on pre-4.x.
After reinstalling the drivers, the first issue seems to have disappeared completely, but I need to test it a little more.
Second issue however, still persists. Textures do load on pre-4.x without any issue whatsoever.
Appended model with textures in 3.6.9:

Even made a test render in 3.6.9, blend file included.

Rendering on 4.2, however, shows the textures, albeit quite differently from 3.6.9.

Good to know. It does not exist in 4.1 because the entire eevee engine is re-written for 4.2 with new features.
Performance impact might be expected on older hardware which can be avoided by given workaround or by disabling ray tracing.
Someone from EEVEE-module may able to expand on this. Forwarding to them.

BTW @iss can you confirm this on AMD GPU?

Can't reproduce this issue on RX 550. On Vega 7 mesh is just black, but no lags. Also my driver is probably old.

Hi, any improvements in texture after enabling Performance > high quality normals?
Re slowdown, do you experience this in render mode of other files?
Have you checked with factory defaults?: File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings

Slowdowns are even worse without zooming in on higher poly models when on R9 270x.
My settings aren't changed from default, difference being max undo steps and custom weightpaint.
Haven't yet tried 'High Quality Normals' option, will try it out later this day.
