Inconsistent viewer node's viewport display when set to instance #126150

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.22631-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 551.86

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.2.0, branch: blender-v4.2-release, commit date: 2024-07-16 06:20, hash: a51f293548ad
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
the viewport shading of the viewer node is inconsistent with the value when the viewer is previewing an instance (when the domain is set to instance and the geometry input is an instance geometry). previewing any value of less than 0.2 to 0 always gives the same shade of grey. regardless and then setting the value to 0.2 gives a darker shade of grey. however, a value of 0.2 to one produces a consistent result

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Connect an instance geometry to a viewer node whose domain is set to instance.
  2. Connected a value node to the viewer node.
  3. Set the value of the value node to any value between 0 and but not including 0.2; the instance object in the viewport remains the same shade of grey regardless of the value.
  4. Set the value to 0.2 and notice the object's viewport colour gets visibly darker.
  5. Any value above this behaves exactly as expected
