System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19045 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 560.94

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.2.0, branch: blender-v4.2-release, commit date: 2024-07-16 06:20, hash: a51f293548ad
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
[Please fill out a short description of the error here]

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[Please describe the exact steps needed to reproduce the issue]
[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

It does not matter what file or how large the file is. Screen redraw is extremely slow when in texture preview mode. If I preview or change a texture the screen update is from 11 to 20 seconds to refresh. I'm a technical illustrator and my files are pretty big most of the time. Average size 1 gig. I never had an issue like this. The problem started in Blender 4. I've updated Nvidia's driver and even tried to go back to an older driver that I know worked before but no luck. It's almost impossible to work now.

Thank you,
Any help is appreciated.
Phil

Hi! If the lag is mainly on the first time you switch to render preview, and also when switching texture, it should be normal since the lag is just the new way blender processes shader. Subsequent switches should be quick enough and not take 10-20 seconds.

Could you try starting blender with --gpu-debug and give us the log? Instructions here. Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the report. Changes done to node tree are reflecting immediately for me in both material preview and viewport render.
Could you check if this is due to enabled add-ons/extensions?: File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings -> Open NH-40709 DUCT for Blender.blend without closing blender (otherwise default preferences are lost)
