System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19042-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 526.98

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.3.0 Alpha, branch: main, commit date: 2024-09-22 23:31, hash: a34b0e17d624
Worked: ? Works as expected in current 4.2 LTS

Short description of error
When sculpting with clay strips, tip roundness is ignored and behaves as if it was set to 0 when one of the following is true:

  • Hardness is set to 1. (Works correctly when set to any value below 1, such as 0.99)
  • Falloff is set to costant. (Works as expected when using a custom falloff with a hand-drawn constant curve.)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Add a 100x100 grid
  2. Enter sculpt mode
  3. To make the problem obvious, use the clay strip brush with:
  • hardness: 1;
  • tip roundness: 1;
  • strength: 3;
  • stroke: anchored;
  • falloff: smoother
  1. A brush stroke will result in a cubic shape instead of the expected cylindrical shape
  2. Now set hardness to 0 and falloff to costant
  3. Again, a brush stroke will result in a cubic shape instead of the expected cylindrical shape

Not sure if this is a bug. @Sean-Kim Can you check?

Not sure if this is a bug.

That's how it works in 4.2 LTS. It makes sense because otherwise:

  • For the hardness part of the issue, the brush stroke would have a cylindrical shape when hardness is at 0.99, and a cubic one when set at 1, creating a huge discontinuity.
  • For the custom falloff, hand-drawing a constant curve would behave differently than using a constant falloff, which would be quite weird.

Can not reproduce either of these claims. But I am not very knowledgable in this area, so would deffer this anyway

Hi, thanks for the report. Can confirm the difference between 4.2 and 4.3

Thanks for checking @PratikPB2123 - setting this as high prio for now. As far as I'm aware this isn't an intentional change as part of the refactor.

@Sean-Kim thanks, forgot to set the label. Do you have a fix already? otherwise I'll proceed with bisecting.

@PratikPB2123 No, I'm not aware of what specifically introduced the regression, bisecting would be appreciated!
