System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 6600
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X

Blender Version
Broken: 4.2.3 LTS 3.6 LTS
Worked: ---

Short description of error
Playstation SCEI monitor - Upon entering fullscreen Blender visuals/rendering freezes.

Interestingly opening blender while using the DELL P2417H monitor and plugging in SCEI monitor will make blender visuals not freeze when fullscreening.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
New system, new windows installation, AMD Radeon RX 6600, amd-software-adrenalin-edition-24.9.1 (factory settings), , Playstation SCEI monitor, enter fullscreen.

Hi @Ewwgine, I'm not quite sure what you meant by Playstation SCEI monitor. Is it connected via HDMI / VGA or Component? Is there anything special about the monitor itself?

More importantly, is that problematic monitor plugged into your motherboard or onto the video card directly? Plugging the monitor directly into the video card could probably solve a lot of problem like this.

I will add that I'm personally unable to reproduce the issue here with a AMD RX 7800XT on Windows. Although that seems to be expected because I'm using a "normal" monitor.

Hello @ChengduLittleA, The monitor is identified as "SCEI" in the Display settings, but it's more commonly known as the PlayStation 3D Display. It's connected via HDMI and plugged directly into the GPU. The unique aspect of this monitor is its 3D display capability, similar to how 3D movies work.

I should mention that this issue didn't occur with my previous system. And as I tested its GPU (Radeon RX 570) in the current setup the problem didn't occur.

Now as I'm testing this further this issue also occurs with Integrated graphics as well.

I again want to point out an interesting observation that depending what graphics card or monitor is plugged in when Blender is initialized the fullscreen behavior will persist after swapping the HDMI.
So:
Opening Blender on RX570, swapping to Motherboard - Works fine.
The other way around - Freezes.
Opening Blender on normal monitor via RX6600 or Motherboard, swapping to problematic monitor - Works fine.
The other way around - Freezes.

Also of note is that by default on the normal monitor RX6600 fullscreening Blender - visual tearing occurs.
Altho vsync would solve that- RX570 does not have this problem.

What other applications should I check for such issues to identify its not a Bender quirk but Gpu-Display one?

fullscreen Blender visuals/rendering freezes.

Hi, do you have multiple monitor connected to different GPUs in setup?

Now as I'm testing this further this issue also occurs with Integrated graphics as well.

Issue might be coming from monitor then?

Could you try following?

  • Change refresh rate
  • Screen resolution
  • Toggle FreeSync

Also, is anything printed in console after the freeze: Window > Toggle System Console
