Group: V 2.27 release
Resolution: New
Category: Rendering (intern)

%%%I have discovered two possibly related problems with
rendering images using OSA in Blender 2.27 on a
Windows ME system. I have not yet tested it on
another system or another version of Blender.

A detailed discussion may be found at
http://www.elysiun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12179 and
an example .blend may be found either with this bug
report (if I attached it correctly) or at
http://home.maine.rr.com/meanwhile/osa/osaerror.blend

BASIC DESCRIPTIONS:

  • At least some objects will not antialias correctly
at all, showing a distinct grey jaggy edge where none
    should be present.

  • Objects with ZTransp enabled do not antialias
    against other objects.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM [1]:

  • Open Blender. Delete the default plane and add a
cylinder. Scale it up a bit and in view 3 rotate it
towards the camera so the flat top is 1/2 visible.
Give it the default texture, make it pure white and
    increase the reflection to 1.

  • Add a few spot lamps (standard three lamp setup will
work fine) pointing at the top of the cylinder. The
idea is to make sure the flat top of the cylinder is
    white from the camera's view.

  • Add a World to the scene, click "blend" off and make
    the background colour pure white.

  • Set OSA to any setting (I've been using 8 and 16),
turn shadows on and render the scene. Observe that
the top edge of the cylinder is white and the
background is white, but where they meet is a jaggy
    grey arc.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM [2]:

  • To the above, add a UVsphere centred on the
Cylinder. Scale it up until the sphere creates
a 'dome' poking out of the flat top of the cylinder.
Give it a new texture, change its colour to pure
black, set alpha to .75 and click the ZTransp button.

  • Rerender the scene and observe that the edge where
the transparent dome meets the cyclinder top is not
    antialiased at all.

  • Turn ZTransp back off for the sphere and rerender
the scene again. Observe that the antialiasing works
this time. (You may also increase alpha to 1 to make
it more visible. This doesn't affect the
    antialiasing.)%%%
