%%%--- Operating System, Graphics card ---
All OS, all GFX cards

- Blender version with error, and version that worked ---

Trunk cycles hair render ignores render settings children.

- Short description of error ---

Blender internal makes difference between the Display/Render setting of Children hair strands.
Internal uses Display to display in 3d editor and render during rendering. Cycles always uses the Display setting create the children hair strands.

- Steps for others to reproduce the error (preferably based on attached .blend file) ---
  • Add Object with hair
  • Enable Children
  • See display is set to 10 and Render to 100. (default values)
  • render using blender internal (100 children per strand will be created).
  • render using cycles (10 children per strand will be created). seems to be ignoring the render setting. Result is same when enable viewport rendering.

I expect that the viewport rendering uses the Display setting and the F12 render uses the render setting.

Thanks in advance
Jeroen%%%

%%%Seems to be more related when Blender generates/communicates the particle data to cycles. In the Display Tab you can set the percentage of particles that needs to be drawn in 3d view. This is also used when rendering with F12.

The particle data is not updated in Blender when rendering. Last display settings are used.

I know this is an experimental feature. Keep on the good work!%%%

%%%Hi Jeroen,

your expectation are right, but it is not the case (yet)...we are only considering the display values atm. This will change in the future, but that's how it is now...

Greetings, Thomas%%%

%%%It's a known issue, see the list here:

Note this is marked as an experimental feature still, which means bugs are expected.%%%
