Add background image in the 3d view port not working
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
open N-panel add image background. Should really tell all the step?
Based on a (as simple as possible) attached .blend file with minimum amount of steps

Works here. Can you at least upload a screenshot of your background image setting in the N panel?

Argh, merged the wrong task... wanted to merge this one into #42723. So let's just use this one instead.

I have this problem on my OS X. I checked every single version from 2.60 to 2.72b and the only versions that this bug does not occur in are 2.68, 2.68a, 2.70 and 2.70a. Hope it helps.

In these releases, default for autoperspective is different. Some have autoperspective on. Others have autoperspective off.
Are you sure your are in front,top or right ortho views ?
Background Image is not displayed in front, top or right persp views.
Thank you, my problem was exactly with autoperspective. I guess my comment is not relevant.
Okay, updated from my 11-20-14 build to 11-27-14 build and that one does not work.

eb62d47ff4by @ideasman42Newest builds from buildbot don't have the fix applied yet, but they should have tomorrow. So if you don't have an own build ready, you can download one from there and it should work fine.
