Blender Version 2.72 and later
Problem:
Starting with version 2,72, keys Ctrl, Shift and Alt do not work!!!
Comment:
Than I build Blender 2.73 by myself with Scones on my laptop.
but the problem was not solved.
Say me please what options setup in Blender build configuration set to Blender descry these keys on my laptop???

You mean they do not work at all? Also not in combination with other shortcuts? Also, @GoXor and @VitaliyKichigin, could you follow the tests I mentioned above? Maybe this will help solving the issue.
please watch this http://youtu.be/6TswBMR-xtw

So you're both using a "virtual keyboard"? Mhh, not sure if that's supported at all since Blender isn't really made for mobile devices as of now. @mont29, any thoughts?
no, but it exactly show how it (not)work with hardware keyboard...
@JulianEisel virtual keyboards are supposed to know how to generate 'real' X11 keyboard events, so I would expect them to work as well as a real one.
Issue here is that I cannot reproduce that issue either (using Debian testing)…
@GoXor or @County, can you please run Blender from a console with
--debug-events --debug-handlers
options, try a few quick uses of those modifier keys, quit blender, and attach here (as a text file!) the lengthy messages printed out in the console?Changed status from 'Archived' to: 'Open'
I don't know how to do it...
the fact that I installed the program on this instruction:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=M83AZ14Pzu8
so, I had to test it point by point:
...
just now i tested 2.73 on Dell Vostro 3350 | work shift, ctrl and tab but not work 'z', 'b', 'q' e.tc
just as i run blender in "--debug-events --debug-handlers" mode (on Dell 3350)
see below terminal text messeges and sysinfo report
sysinforeport.txt
terminal_messege_with_blender_running_as_debug_mode_--debug-events_--debug-handlers.txt
i investigate how run blender from terminal with debug options(--debug-events --debug-handlers):
see bellow my (dell vostro 3700) reports:
teminal_text_messeges_before_blender_running_with_--debug-events_--debug-handlers_options_on_dell_vostro_3700_mint17_quianna.txt

thank you boys! blender it's a great soft!
I wish you to solve the problem...
Building on the laptop. Keys Ctrl, Shift and Alt do not work!!!to On some configurations, some chars are not rendered in UI (OpenGL texture/rounding issue?)@mont29, have you seen the first video by @VitaliyKichigin? For me it really looks like some events are not handled correctly or so...
@JulianEisel he reported on IRC yesterday, iirc he has on PC working OK (NVidia GPU), the other broken (intel integrated GPU), bith under same OS (ubuntu) and using same version of blender… definitively an OGL issue, but unclear whether driver issue or once again a rounding issue in our code.

Blender (X11 applications in general) shouldn't need special code to support virtual keyboards,
Tested a virtual keyboard call 'onboard': https://launchpad.net/onboard
Modifier keys worked as expected.
What virtual-keyboard application are you using?
(note, it could be caused by similar issues as #40317 / #40155)
Yes, i was use 'onboard', but only to show this trouble. It is exactly demonstrate how laptop's keyboard not work normal. See all comments above...
Lots of people use Blender on laptops, on Linux without this bug, so its likely this is an error specific to your configuration.
Please describe the following:
Also:
Can you try:
At this point its really not clear why modifier keys would fail so it would help if you did some troubleshooting.
Ok.!
We need to be able to redo the bug. What you describe sounds like a fairly typical Linux installation,
I can think of other things to test...
Further, these kinds of bugs are rarely errors in Blender's code, and instead some local configuration we dont have control over.
Moving to unconfirmed.

Nothing new here, thanks for the report, but time to archive.
