I have tested this on alot of computers now

Click on

  • the properties window
  • Data tab (where you would create shape keys)
  • then click on the paper pin icon in the top left hand corner just below the properties icon and pin the "Data tab"

When this tab is pinned some properties go missing out of the tabbed window
ie. shape Keys menu vanishes

This will be because context.object is concealed, and it fails in poll.

They are data associated with object data, and they are not things associated with Mesh data.
I think that the behavior is not wrong.

If think about the human interaction behind this then wouldn't this be clearly incorrect?

The purpose is to pin the tab so you can maintain the datas content while interacting with other information ie. Drivers.

Perhaps I'm thinking about this the wrong way?

Simple experiment make a shape key and then pin the tab. You should still what your working on.

Isn't that the intention behind the pin?

Yeah, as @sindra1961 said, issue here is that shapekeys are “spread” across two different data types - Object and Mesh (or other geometry type of data). When you pin in 'Data' porperties context, you only pin the 'mesh' part, not the 'object' part, so features that depend also on object cannot work anymore. Note that the same goes for vgroups too.

So thanks for the report, but no bug here.

Ok. I kinda get what your saying. Thank you I will put it down to bad design or underdeveloped.

Thanks for the heads up.
