Bezier Curve handles revert back to 'free' after changing to 'vector' type #44790

System Information
Windows 7 64bits NvidiaGTX 580

Blender Version
Broken: At least since 2.74, probably earlier

Short description of error
I can't reproduce it reliably but often when changing Bezier handles from 'Free' to 'Vector' type they will revert back to free, either after changing type of other handles, or upon exiting curve edit mode.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Open attached file CurveHandles.blend
  • Make sure you display mode is in Wireframe (helps view the problem)
  • Select object named 'Curve'
  • Enter edit mode
  • Press 'V' and change the type of the already pre-selected handles to 'Vector'
  • Immediately after rotate the view (do not deselect the vertex, at this point you'll probably notice handles changed color already)
  • Exit edit mode
  • You can see by the wireframe the handles verted back to free handles (the segmented wire returns)

While testing this I noticed it only happens to me if I rotate the view after changing the handle type and before exiting edit mode.

Enter

Cannot reproduce that here at all… Did you check with the latest build from our buildbot?

It's true I have not been able to replicate it in newer builds from the buildbot, nor have I been able to replicate it in a 'fresh install' of my 2.74.
Sorry for all the noise, should have tested it better, it has been annoying me for a while now. I even imported my custom key config and it didn't happen again, maybe it's some addon conflict causing it...

But I assure you I can replicate it reliably now on my main blender install, even made a few captures to prove I am not crazy :D

Ok, but if you cannot give us a way to reproduce this bug, we cannot do anything. Indeed, could be a conflict in addons and/or keymap customization… Anyway, thanks for report, but closing for now.

Yes, I understand,my apologies, I should have tested it better.
Please do close it, once again again sorry for the noise.

Ok, finaly got to the bottom of this, it seems 'Rotate around selection" option is the culprit. Reported at #46161
