Short description of error
When choosing the material menu, or creating a new material in Cycles, Blender crashes giving the error: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

For it to crash with the Material Menu button, a material needs to exist, but with my "startup.blend", it only needs me to create a new material. The odd thing is, it only happens when loading another file after starting Blender. If it's the first file opened on startup, it seems to work ok, until a material image crashes it later (assumption).

I created a whole new startup file recently, using the factory defaults, and even with all addons off this issue still persists. I apologize for the statup file, it was the closest I could come to recreating this issue.

I've been having crashing issues since 2.73, but I only recently recreated my startup, so I'm not sure if it was the same crash issue prior to 2.75tb.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Based on attached .blend file:

  1. Save as Startup File, and Start Blender
  2. Create new Material from material menu, with the "New" button, and the remove it
  3. Go to File > New and reload the startup file
  4. Create new Material from material menu, with the "New" button, and observe as Blender crashes

I'm not sure if this is helpful information or not, but I was just doing some texture painting, and like recently, the visualization of the mask was not showing. I quickly went to load the factory defaults, Blender crashed, and was presented with the same error again.

I cannot reproduce on win32.

Version notation of attached startup.blend seems to be different.
'_' is used in startup.blend which I use, but '-'is used in the attached file.
Are these different with a package?

This is fixed See:#45133 c119187be0

If you can redo the error on a daily build, this can be re-opened.
