regression with transparent shadows and OpenCL split kernel #45745

System Information
Win7 x64, AMD Radeon R9 280X with Catalyst 15.7.1

Blender Version
Broken: fef31aa

Short description of error
Rendering with experimental to get transparent shadows render much slower (from 1min35s on barcelona scene to more than 35min in latest buildbots) and there is no transparent shadows anymore.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Render the Barcelona scene (from demo scene on official blender page) with OpenCL's experimental kernel. Transparent shadows are not visible and render is really slow (70x to 23x slower in my tests !!!).
I use this build of 2.75 with full AMD split kernel patch for comparison: http://www.file-upload.net/download-10830494/win64-vc.7z.html

Transparent shadows aren't supported yet, see http://blender.org/manual/render/cycles/features.html (assuming this is up-to-date).

Thanks for the report, but closing as archived.

You know doc is not updated regularly in Blender and you are a programmer. What about reading the code? Sergey added transparent shadows to the experimental kernel just after 2.75.

From blender/cycles@7ec40e8256:

They're working just fine on AMD Tonga GPU and probably other architectures, lets enable it under the experimental feature set and see what exact system configuration gives issues.

So it's expected that not all GPUs work. There's also a reason why it's only enabled for experimental feature set ;)
Anyway, CCing @ThomasDinges and @Sergey so they can decide what to do with this (at least they should be notified that it doesn't work in your config)

Experimental kernel might indeed be slower. Transparent shadows might or might not work, they were explicitly disabled by the AMD developers to work around their compiler bug and i never heard back about if they're gonna to fix that compiler bug or not.

Currently will not consider this a bug.
