Smoke Cycle - forgets settings when moving between Domain and Flow tabs #46517

System Information
Windows 7, EVGA 550ti

Blender Version
2.76 release 2015-10-11 06:55 48f7dd6
Worked: (optional)

When in smoke cycle, moving between "Domain" and "Flow" tabs causes system to forget any modifications and go back to default values. For example, go to "Flow" and change from "Smoke" to "Fire and Smoke". Then select "Domain" tab and then "Flow" tab again. Note that flow type is back to "Smoke". Simulation doesn't work with smoke+fire at all (did work somewhat in the pre-release candidate I downloaded a few weeks ago). Or, change resolution (I went from default 32 to 96). Click to "Domain" and back to "Flow" which shows resolution back to 32 and simulation is also reset. Same with enabling adaptive domain. These changes are all forgotten and system goes back to default behavior. Assume this is universal for most or all settings although I haven't verified.

From beginning: start with UV sphere and smooth. Space bar, enter "Quick" and pick Quick Smoke. Run simulation to see smoke. Go to Physics tab, click "Flow" and change type to "Smoke and Fire". Run simulation - doesn't work at all unless I reset simulation and make sure "Domain" is selected. Click back to "Flow" to see type is now back to "Smoke". Run sim to see that fire is not there. Have to click "Domain" tab to get simulation to run at all and reset simulation back to frame zero. Right click domain box and double size (S 2) and click to set. Go to "Domain" tab in Physics and change resolution to 96. Click "Smoke Adaptive Domain". Reset and run simulation to see changes. Click "Flow" and back to "Domain" and see that resolution has been reset to 32 and "Smoke Adaptive Domain" is reset. Reset and run simulation to see that it too has returned to the old behaviors. Also, if I mess with this enough the program crashes so there are still some serious bugs in the smoke cycle code.

Don't understand why simulation only works if it is reset to frame zero and only works when "Domain" tab is clicked. Should work all the time unless I specifically disable it.

No attached file as the problem is very obvious with only minor changes from startup condition.

Thanks for the report, but no bug at all here… Domain/flow/etc. are mutually exclusive, if one object is a domain then it cannot be a flow or anything else. Hence, there is absolutely no reason to keep those settings when switching between them - you are supposed to choose the role of your object from the start.
