Can't set bezier curve object as array modifier cap #48510

System Information
Windows 7 64bits GTX580 + GTX 980ti

Blender Version
Broken: 2.77, latest buildbot Snapshot dc5a6a0
Probably all other builds before.

Short description of error
Array modifier can't use a bezier curve object as Start Cap or End Cap

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
You can use an array modifier in a regular bezier curve object, but you cant use any curve as a start or end cap or said array modifier

  • Add a curve object to the scene (lets call it curve A)
  • Add an array modifier to that curve object
  • Add a new separate curve object (lets call it curve B)
  • Try to set second curve B object as a start or end cap on the array modifier of Curve A

Message says "Failed to set object"

This is kind of a feature request masked as a bug report, because it is most likely a limitation of the current system rather than a real bug, albeit one that makes little sense and is probably very easy to lift because the array modifier already seems to support curve objects anyway.

If this were some oversight, we would add support for this, however - the array modifier is using the mesh data (without modifiers applied),
Resolving this would mean getting the curves as meshes without modifiers applied, it could be supported, but its not a bug.

closing.
