GPU rendering (CUDA) sometimes doesn't load images from image sequence textures. #48646

System Information
Fedora 23, Nvidia GTX 770 (rendering only) and Nvidia quadro 2000 (display only)

Blender Version
Broken: 2.77, 2.77a abf6f08

Short description of error

Textures with image sequences are on some frames rendering with the pink 'image not found'. It seems to be related to the complexity of the scene somehow - the more objects I add, the mode likely it is to happen. It only happens with GPU rendering, turning on CPU instead makes it work fine.

On a much more complex scene (100s+ mb of textures and linked files) with many different animated textures, it was rendering every odd-numbered frame with pink, and every even numbered frame with the correct image.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Load the .blend, turn on 'shift-z' mode in the view port, and scrub back and forth with holding down left or right a few times. If it doesn't happen, try duplicating a few of the objects and drag them to different locations, and try again.

I had this error in the actual 'proper' render of a a complex scene, and can only reproduce this in this very simple demo file with the scrubbing. When doing a proper render, it doesn't show up.

Here's the quick Demo file:
pinkbug.tar.gz

And here are two low-quality renders from my big problem file:
small0003.jpg - odd number frames working

small0004.jpg - even number frames pink

I've managed to cut down the complex scene and files down to 140 meg including enough textures. hopefully this is more useful, as it shows the problem every time for me.

multiple.tar.gz

To reproduce:

load the Composite.blend file.
Make sure GPU Compute is selected.
Press the 'Animation' button in the Render Buttons.
Watch every other frame show up Pink textures.

This also works using the commandline / 'blender -b Composite.blend -a'

Hi, I can verify missing textures until frame 44, every second frame shows pink.
From frame 44 and up it is working for me, viewport and render animation.
But I got a lot of missing files errors opening the file.
I don´t think it is a bug but really hard to find out with such a complicate file. :/

This is a texture limit issue. Up to 2.77a we had 5 float images supported on GPU, and a bit more byte textures. Since c9f1ed1e this limitation was removed for cards 6xx and above.

So thanks for the report, but not a bug.
