Replace mesh using python bug. #4928

%%%Whenever you replace a mesh using a regular actuator with the mesh entered into the mesh field it replaces it just fine. but when you fill the mesh input field with python using .setMesh("MeshName") it does not replace the mesh whenever there is not a mesh object of the one youre trying to replace on the scene as the object that is trying to replace the mesh. But when you use the regular actuator with manually entered mesh it dosnt matter if there is an instance of the mesh it still works fine.

Sorry if you can't understand me clearly.

In the attached .blend there are two scenes "Sphere" which has the objects to replace the mesh of and the sphere mesh to replace to. And "No Sphere" which has the objects to replace the mesh but no mesh.

press 1 in the scene to replace the mesh using python
and press 2 to replace the mesh regularly

the way using python dosnt work if the mesh to replace to is on a diffrent scene while the regular way does.%%%

%%%This bug looks solved (file tested in current BlenderSVN).

However, if there is no object using this mesh (only a fake-user), the problem persist.

Attached the file altered.%%%

%%%Sorry for the noise of the last two posts.

Right now the bug persists in two forms:

  • BGE Python can't access the mesh if there is no object using it in the actual scene.

  • If there is only one scene, the mesh can't be accessed if it exists only as a Fake User mesh. (it most have an owner even if it is in a hidden layer)%%%

%%%An object that you wanted added or a mesh you want to use for replace must be on a hidden layer, that's a silly limitation but not a bug.%%%
