Short description of error
If one 3D viewport has shading set to Rendered, Blender crashed when starting a render (F12).

It seems you've got some addon or script enabled which hooks up to scene pre-render event and switches viewports to non-rendered mode. This is a dangerous situation because switching off rendered mode involves OpenGL communication which in such scenario happens form non-main thread (which is really bad idea and causes crashes).

If you use that script to give final render all the compute power you can use workaround of pausing viewport render instead.

So thanks for the report, but it's either a script or non-official addon which does unsupported operation.

Thanks for your swift reply. You're right indeed. Disabling all add-ons fixes the issue. Now it's about finding the bad guy. Would you able to give me any pointers towards the name/functionality of the add-on? Or should I go trial and error?

It's hard to tell from just a backtrace gathered from release build. Just disable addons one by one i guess.
