Switch to Camera Perspective Misaligned #49962

System Information
OS: Ubuntu 64-bit
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 770m
Memory: 32 GB
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz × 8
Storage containing OS: 256 GB SSD

Blender Version
Broken: v2.78 4bb1e22
Worked: v2.77a abf6f08

Short description of error
Hitting the zero numpad key to bring the 3d view to the camera's perspective will sometimes be incomplete. The view swivels around to the camera but does not fully align and the render area box does not appear (see attached image). blender-camera-bug.png
Additionally, if left for a few minutes in the misaligned state, the viewport will eventually correct itself.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Starting with the default startup file, repeatedly press the zero numpad key to zoom into and out of the camera's perspective. The viewport will occasionally misalign as described above.

Note
After repeating the steps above for a few minutes, I found that on my machine the bug occurs approximately 42% of the time when switching to the camera perspective.

can you post a picture of your interface setting in user preferences.
I can't reproduce this.

I can't recreate this either. Not sure what could cause this... maybe graphics driver. Please try launching Blender using the blender-softwaregl script bundled with Blender builds (it's in the same folder as the Blender executable). If it works there we for sure have a bug in your graphics driver.

I believe you were correct. After launching blender using the softwaregl version, the problem ceases. Does using the softwaregl version have a large performance cost? If it does,

Do you by chance know if there are any repositories for nvidia drivers better than the default Ubuntu repository that could help to remedy this problem?

The softwaregl script moves everything the driver would handle on the GPU to the CPU which brings down performance quite badly.
It's probably best to use drivers right from the Nvidia page, http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html. You may also want to double check you're actually using the Nvidia card for display, not the Intel integrated one.

Closing the report as this is almost definitely a driver bug. Thanks for reporting nevertheless!
