System Information Win 7 gtx 550ti
Operating system and graphics card

Blender Version
Broken: (example: 2.69.7 4b206af, see splash screen) blender 2.78.3 hash 16e2c0e
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
When staring screencast with default video settings, screencast don't work.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on a (as simple as possible) attached .blend file with minimum amount of steps

  • Change the video setting output setting to FFmpeg video ( not .png).
  • start screeencast. Screencast starts and closes immediately.
  • In the console we got error message: height not divisible by 2 (1902x985) screencast job stopped.

That’s nor really a bug actually… you have to either ensure your window has a size compatible with chosen video codec, or chose a codec that accepts random image sizes. Maybe we could help automating that from screencast operator, but there is no bug here.

Bastien did you try to replicate it? Behavior had changed, get Blender 2.77 series screencast worked out of the box but with 2.78a it doesn't work or should ask how to " ensure your window has a size compatible with chosen video codec"? At least before we didn't have to.

Yes, what changed is that we now check image size is compatible with some codecs (previously we did not, which sometimes was working, and sometimes was broken).

So how to set it correctly since there is not documentation ?

I think that most (if not all) codecs are fine with multiples of 16. Not sure if we want to add automatic window resizing to the screencast operator. Then again, the only alternative I see is to crop the recording rectangle to multiples of 16.
