Windows 7SP1,32bit, 3.5GB, XEON W3520, NVIDIA GeForce GTX560 Ti

Blender Version
Broken: 2.78a 2016-10-24
Worked: 2.78 2016-09-26

Short description of error
Attempting to open file created in 2.76, 2.78a crashes with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. File opens and animation runs correctly in 2.76, 2.77, and 2.78, but crashes in 2.78a. Attached file was originally created in 2.76a, but subsequently opened and saved in 2.77.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Attempting to open or append attached file results in crash in version 2.78a. File opens and animation runs correctly in all versions up to and including 2.78. Have tried with MSI and ZIP versions of Blender 2.78a.
