Window 10
Intel Core i7-4700MQ
Blender 2.78

Recently, starting up Blender has caused serious lag issues within the app, having worked fine previously in the day. Doing anything from opening a menu or rotating the view takes multiple seconds before it responds.

Could be a GPU driver update? could be an addon? could be anything really, we have no info in this report, please follow our submission template and guidelines and make a complete, valid bug report, with required info, precise description of the issue, precise steps to reproduce it, small and simple .blend and/or other files to do so if needed, etc.

Also, please:

  • Give us your exact Blender, OS and GPU (including drivers) versions, as requested in the template!
  • Ensure both your OS and drivers are fully up-to-date (and use official GPU drivers, not those provided by windows or tablet/laptop maker).
  • Try to disable any running antivirus.
  • Try to re-download and re-install Blender.
  • Try the latest build from our buildbot.
  • Try to start Blender in factory settings (--factory-startup commandline option) (this will ensure whether this is a userpref or addon issue or not).
  • Try to tweak OGL settings in UserPreferences, System tab.
  • Try to tweak your GPU driver settings (e.g. try different values between 'performance' and 'quality' if you have such slider, etc.).
  • Attach as text file here the report generated by Help -> System Info (do not paste it directly in comment).
  • Try to place this dll next to your blender.exe (software OGL, will be slow, but will show whether this is a driver issue or not).

To all people experimenting issue: this is clearly not a Blender bug, since it pops out of nowhere and affects even rather old releases that worked perfectly so far.

This seems to affect windows10/NVidia users (though #50693 claims to use an Intel GPU?), so would suspect either Windows update or NVidia drivers update to have broken things here. Please contact those company, we cannot do anything about it here.

Will keep this report open for now, hopping it will avoid too much other reports being created for same issue…

Bastien Montagne changed title from Serious Lag Issue to Serious lag with any recent Blender versions under windows10 (and NVidia GPUs?) 2017-02-16 14:53:29 +01:00

From Differthink 2/16/2017:
Check your update history. On Windows 10 do this:
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & security > Update History (in the right hand column near the top in blue).
This is an update that was auto downloaded to my computer 2/13/2017, which is exactly when I started having this problem:
NVIDIA - Display - 12/29/2016 12:00:00 AM - 21.21.13.7654
I’m going out to Nvidia to investigate this further. I’ll post back what I find.

NVidia have responded to my complaint, further to Bastien Montagne's coordination and re-direction of our problem.

I am downloading the driver to which they pointed me, in order to perform a clean install, for my GEForce GTX 960M graphics card (MSi Apache Pro running Win 10).
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/115491/en-us

...and it worked. I have normal performance from Blender again.

Sandra and Bastien
NVidia emailed me too and indicated the auto update I had got was a generic Windows update for this GPU and was not NVidia’s driver update. I did the same as you and downloaded the recommended driver from NVidia (378.66 for me). I did the Advanced install and clicked the button to erase all of the old drivers to prevent any conflicts. It worked great and I think my Blender is running faster. I also downloaded the HP driver for this card as NVidia recommends, but it was more than 2 years old. I’ll just keep it for a backup.
Thank you, Sandra, and Bastien for all your help.
