The DPI setting is now queried from the system, with an ability to scale interface when needed with Scale setting in Interface settings. See https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Ref/Release_Notes/2.79/UI#Automatic_DPI

P.S. We also thinking to bring pixel size back, see D2778.

please consider bringing back the explicit ability to control DPI size as it can be very useful for those of use creating tutorials for Blender (making it easier for the student to see the text).

the Display > Scale feature in the Interface tab (as mentioned in https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Ref/Release_Notes/2.79/UI#Automatic_DPI looks potentially very useful, but one doesn't always want to expand everything, sometimes just the text is sufficient.

thanks,
julian

@JulianDarley, in 2.79rc2 you can select Line Width to be thin and then scale slider will behave same as DPI slider in previous releases. Did you try that?

thank you for the suggestion which i have tried. the new Display Scale function does indeed seem to be identical to the old DPI parameter (i checked in 2.78). i only found this function this morning while studying a blender tutorial so i was not previously familiar with how the DPI parameter worked. btw, for me, it made no difference whether i selected Thin or Auto.

used judiciously, this scaling function will definitely be useful, especially for those of us using screencast software that does not have a live zoom-in function.
