System Information
Win7 X64 with RX 480 or RX VEGA and 17.8.2 driver
Blender Version
Broken: 2.79RC2
Short description of error
Blender crashes when compiling the kernel when a blackbody node is added and not even connected
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open attached file and hit F12
crash opencl.blend
By the way, why an unconnected node that is removed by the tree cleaning operation triggers a group level of 3? Doing the cleaning (including unfolding) first would prevent using a suboptimal kernel would diminish the number of kernel recompiling.

@MaiLavelle can you check this one? you are our OpenCL expert I think. ;)
The crash appears to be coming from the driver, AMD has been notified.
Also node graph optimizations are another issue, it would be best to keep that separate from this report. Patches are welcome if you have a way to improve that area.

Doing the cleanup first can will actually increase the number of kernel recompiles - due to shader optimization, you could end up with different node groups depending on mix factors etc., which means you'd get annoying rebuilds while tweaking shaders. That's also a problem with attributes and resyncing, which is why those are only evaluated after optimization when doing a F12 render, and afaik the same should be happening for node groups already.
Hi @LukasStockner,
I remember you already had a patch to make the optimization before the kernel compile options are set/gathered. Could you share it in the tracker?
Please keep the discussion to the reported crash only. Discussion of other stuff can happen in irc, mailing list or another dedicated task.
