NVIDIA graphics causes a permanently white window #53690

System Information
HP Pavilion 14-bf153sa running Windows 10, Nvidia GeForce 940MX

Blender Version
Broken: 2.79 5bd8ac9
Couldn't find a version that worked

Short description of error
When blender is run using Nvidia graphics card (right click -> Run with graphics processor -> High-performance NVIDIA processor), the window that opens is entirely white, no UI visible, and no way of interacting with it. The console outputs:

AL lib: (EE) UpdateDeviceParams: Failed to set 44100hz, got 48000hz instead
found bundled python: C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.79\python

I put opengl32.dll in the same folder as the executable as suggested here https:*developer.blender.org/T37027 - blender runs fine, but incredibly slowly.

When blender is run using integrated graphics (right click -> Run with graphics processor -> Integrated graphics) it runs fine, but works very slowly in some regards including selecting objects.

I assumed it was a problem with graphics drivers, but I had the latest version installed from the nvidia website.
Thanks in advance for any help

Could you do us a favour and check if there's another (older even) driver version that works for you - and maybe update Windows, too? (as @VukGardasevic suggested this is very likely a driver issue)
Marking as incomplete for the time being...

I've now tried drivers since 385.41 (released August 2017) - still, the same problem persists. My process is to download a driver from https:www.geforce.com/drivers and install it. To ensure it has installed, I then choose update driver on Device Manager > Display Adapters > NVIDIA GeForce 940MX (thenbrowse my computer...andlet me pick a driver...// before selecting the installed driver).

I'm gradually getting the feeling that this may not be the issue... unless drivers should be installed using another method?

Also, Windows is at latest version (10.0.16299 Build 16299)

Seems that the issue is Win10 related, not driver related (on nvidia side). Currently works fine on my laptop -Aspire E15, Geforce 940mx graphics, Linux Ubuntu 16.04.
The problem with Win10 is that it installs it's own graphics acceleration software and sometimes forces the gpu through the onboard (insanely silly), try un-installing the graphics software entirely (both intel graphics media accelerator and nvidia drivers), restart the pc and then install the latest nvidia geforce version, if it's possible, disable Windows update until you have done this otherwise it will re-install those buggy drivers

As far as I know, they aren't working as hard on their OpenGL bugs as they should be (Windows side)

Run as win8 compatibility, maybe it will work

You might try playing with the Window Draw Method setting in UserPrefs->System

Is this still an issue with the latest nvidia drivers?
