I seem to be experiencing a similar issue, except with smoke sim, and on Windows, as I reported in the thread #59838, here is a copy of that text:

I have experienced a similar issue. Using blender-2.80-1c7695b8483d-windows64, when I render smoke in Eevee I get nothing. When I render in Cycles I see the smoke, when I render in "Workbench" mode, I also see smoke. In the viewport I can see it all correctly.

Similar issue on my Mac MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G5019), iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017), Graphics card: Radeon Pro 580 8192 MB. I can see volumetrics with Eevee, but it vanishes when I add any kind of texture.

Same here on a Macbook Pro Screenshot 2019-02-09 14.17.08.png
When plugging in the texture in the volume density the render does not show up. My light energy is at 20.

I don't know if this is helpful, but as I have a bootcamp partition, I'm able to verify that on the exact same hardware, using a texture to drive volumetric density in eevee causes the volume to disappear on macOS Mojave, but works as expected on windows 10.

@JohnGrigni-4 Can you look up the console for any shader compilation error? This fix/bug report was mainly for world volumetric material, not object's.

Ignore my post. It's working. I was a dummy and didn't click on Volumetrics in the settings.

This seems to be an issue again with the latest build. Having to use an older build now. Also where did User Preferences go?

How do I do that? This still isn't working with a 2018 MacBook Pro 2018 i7 Vega 20. It initially worked with the first fix. On version blender-2.80.0-git20190315.35b78d9807c4-x86_64 5.34.24 PM is the latest one that I use to get the noise textures to work in with Volumes.

Chiming in as someone else who found this issue fixed in march builds only to have it revert shortly thereafter - although in my case it only broke on my Vega 64 egpu on macOS Mojave, but strangely it still works using the laptop's internal 560x. Could it be a Vega specific issue?

FWIW I just downloaded the Uploading_Volumetric.blend and looked at it in Rendered mode in Blender 2.81a (press 'z' after loading it and click Rendered), and it was nicely cloudy.

System specs:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15", late 2013)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2 GB
Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB
macOS Mojave version 10.14.6

And I know that this used to be broken for me, as I reported in #62383.

This works on my hackintosh running 10.13.6 with a geforce 960 with nvidia web drivers. But it fails running on the radeon pro vega 20 on 10.14.6. Sadly there is no amd drivers for osx except from apple included in the OS :(
So I'm guessing this is specific to AMD on OSX #66508

Hi, just encountered the same issue today with my Macbook Pro.

Under EEVEE, with all necessary options ticked, the Principled Volume node stopped working, and the object disappeared from the preview window at the very moment I connect a texture node to it. Attaching the blender file with the volume material.

I wonder is this just happening to my laptop, as I tried both blender 2.83 & 2.90.1 for the material but both failed:

macOS Catalina
Version 10.15.7

MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019
Processor 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
Memory 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Startup Disk Macintosh HD
Graphic AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB Intel UHD Graphic 630 1536 MB

Attached the original file here for better communication.
Super thanks for the help!!

This is really bizarre -- in Blender 2.91.2 it doesn't work on my Hackintosh running the latest Catalina, but works flawlessly in the same version of Blender on my M1 Mac Book Air running the latest Big Sur.

How can I assist in getting this issue worked out?
