You can pack the images into the .blend in the following menu: File -> External Data -> Pack All into .blend.
Don't forget to make a copy of your file first.

I can't reproduce this either (Linux, AMD 290x)

Can you attach the output of --debug-gpu and see if --debug-gpu-force-workarounds helps in anyway?

I'm having the same issue, here is terminal output. --debug-gpu-force-workarounds didn't help.
