Operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate sp1
Graphics card: Palit nvidia 1060
Broken: 2.80.37
Image sequence as texture not previewed and not rendered either in Cycles and Eevee. In particular Image texture preview (and render) became violet whenever switched from single image to image sequence in texture node.
In movie mode only first frame is previewed and rendered but not auto refreshed.
Thank you very much.

Problem still only in Eevee preview/render. In Cycles is rendered correctly either in image sequence or in movie mode.

Can confirm.
possibly related is #57457 [not 100% sure yet if this is the same issue (this report is for image sequences whereas #57457 is for movies)]
Yes same issue. I have tested problem both with image jpg/tga sequence and h264 movie clip. I can upload test prj if needed. Thank you Philipp.

The variant from Daniel Salazar in another branch (https://developer.blender.org/T57457) works only with video textures (textures type 'movie' displayed and rendered normal).
For the sequence of images, this method is not suitable - they are also displayed and rendered in pink.
Therefore, perhaps these are different issue.
