System Information
Operating system: Ubuntu 18.04
Graphics card: AMD RX580

Blender Version
Broken:
2.80 (sub 43), branch: blender2.7, commit date: 2019-01-31 21:41, hash: 8a51af7d1c, type: Release
Worked:
2.79

For those modelling with precision, the viewport grid units serve as scale/guide/reference. Currently it's very hard to determine scale when zoomed in close to an object. This was present in 2.79.

Related: 45ba3d31c04a

The image attached has different zoom levels but it's impossible to tell which one is zoomed in more than the other.

I'm unsure what you mean.

I feel I get the same result in 2.79:

This functionality must have gotten lost during the viewport rewrite

Here a suggestion for the fix: D4325

Thank you! Hopefully this will get accepted soon.

Thank you! Hopefully this will get accepted soon.

As a step to fix this problem, I also propose the D4379 patch that changes the way the Grid is drawn.

Currently imperial measures are being drawn in steps/subdivisions by 10 and 10. All based on feets units.

The patch proposed change this behaviour to adapt thou, inches, miles... units.

But I'm not familiar to this kind of unit system. I wonder if that really is a desirable change.

Hi guys, just want to know if this is still being worked on? I would really like to jump on the 2.80 wagon, but the lack of unit display makes modelling really hard at the moment.

Thanks
