Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
In the startup file
Create another box
Select both boxes
Press F3
Enter "Align"
Select "Align objects"
The function crashes.

tested on ubuntu 18.04 LTS with Intel HD4000 works fine. can't reproduce

Hm do you have instaled some addons? are u running 2.8 on def preferences? can u do really clean instal of 2.8 with def settings no extra addons. and try again?
so far i manage to test on 3 laptops,
so i think try instaling newest build of blender 2.8 but with defult preferences like this: and try to test this again.
also reinstal your GPU drivers. because maybe they are broken. intel drivers from some strange reason often stop working correctly, i had such case in past.
