System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.17763 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1060/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 419.67

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 74), branch: master, commit date: 2019-07-11 13:50, hash: 06312c6d2d
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error

Keyframing texture properties doesn't add keyframes to the timeline

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
When creating a texture for an object, pressing 'i' to add a keyframe on a property, such as Brightness, doesn't add a keyframe to the timeline or graph editor. This happens under Eevee and Cycles.temp.blend
[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

The save uploaded shows Brightness highlighted in yellow where 'i' has been pressed, but nothing shows on the timeline.

This is the same behaviour as in 2.7: the texture in your file is not used by an object in the scene so it doesn't show in the dopesheet, if you linked the texture to an object modifier, like Displace for example, then the keyframes will appear.

It works perfectly fine for me in 2.7 though. I've added a material, then a texture, such as Cloud or Blend, and then on Brightness, I've set it to/from 0-1, pressed 'i' and the keyframe has appeared. I've tried doing the same thing in 2.8 but it just doesn't work. Admittedly, I'm not sure how to apply a specific texture to a group/collection. I have Cloud for the two main stalks of my lightning, and then Blend for the small 'children'. If I pick one of them though, it seems to apply to all of them. But even with the Material and Texture applied, pressing 'i' on the Brightness doesn't put a keyframe on the timeline.

I tried adding a Displace modifier to one of my objects, but it just makes it warp/deform out of proportion.

Ok, I'm guessing then that in 2.7 you were using Blender Internal as render engine?
In that case the texture was indeed used by an object, and so its keyframes showed up in the timeline; in your 2.8 file "Texture.002" is only used as a brush texture.

in 2.8 Blender Internal has been removed and it's been replaced by Eevee.
Its material creation is node-based as Cycles and you cannot use the old texture system for materials, you need to use the node ones you can find in the Shader editor.
If you have doubts about how to switch from Blender Internal to Eevee though it's better for you to ask for support in one of the various community forums: https://www.blender.org/community/

Ahhh, that would explain it. Yeah, I was using Blender Render. So I'm guessing I would add keyframes for Eevee and Cycles by pressing 'i' via the Materials tab or via the Node Editor...?

Either would work yes, probably easier from the node editor though.
Anyway, closing now since in the end it wasn't a bug. Cheers.
