Short description of error
Right click select, not responding while using 'Emulate 3 Button Mouse' with trackpad. Works as expected while using an actual 3 button mouse. Appears not to recognize pressing of 'command' key and trackpad button. Mac OSX 10.14.5 (MacBook Pro)

No, I cannot reproduce this.
Emulate 3 Button Mouse makes Alt-click register as MMB. It appears to work correctly.

I'm not sure if command + left click was intended to work as right click? It doesn't work in 2.79 either as far as I can tell. Maybe you have some specific system setting for that?
I think typically you'd set the system settings so that e.g. clicking on the right side of the trackpad results in right click.

There was code to convert Cmd-LMB to RMB on macOS, however this wasn't practical to keep when the keymap uses Cmd as Control (since Control-LMB shortcut is used in Blender fairly often).

Thanks for looking at this. Guess I'll just have to switch to left click select :)
