Motion Tracking Module #69103

Design task to coordinate the development of the Motion Tracking module in Blender.
There are two main areas here, Tracking and Masking.

Important links:

Order of importance:

  • {icon circle color=red} Very Important - These we should handle before the next release.
  • {icon circle color=yellow} Somewhat Important - These issues would be nice to do as soon as possible.
  • {icon circle color=green} Less Important - Extra polish, nice to have.
  • ? Incomplete - Tasks needing more details before implementing.

Long Term Projects

Development may span multiple release cycles.


Medium Term Projects

Tracking

  • {icon circle color=red} #65988 (When rendering in viewport mode the draw engines do not pass correct Alpha values.)
  • {icon circle color=red} #67832 (Background images ignore View transform)

Masking

  • {icon circle color=yellow} #69102 (Force Mask direction / Enable inwards feathering)

Paper Cuts

Small improvements and polish. Since there are many, they are in a separate list

even if as " Long Term" and not a priority project could we add the "multi-camera solving" ?

It is surely an interesting project and is nice to see your interest!

Unfortunately there are few things to keep in mind:

  • We only list projects which can be handled in a realistic time. Since the development team in the module is not so big and is busy with a lot of other projects, the multi-camera solver is not yet being considered.
  • This is not for suggestions and feedback, but for tracking status. Also, it will soon be split into separate tasks which of each will be on the project's workboard.

BTW, we did have a GSoC project about multi-camera solver. It still needs work though, but is something you might want to check.

I tried to compile it but it was a nightmare for the library compatibility and dependencies with the recent GNU/Linux distros.
As a GSoC project i hoped that it could be considered as long term project but i understand that it can be a big task.

Anyway i will follow with interest the Motion Tracking Module so thank you for your work !
