System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 pro
Graphics card: AMD FX 4300 quad core

Blender Version
Broken:
2.80 official Release
Worked: (optional)selection issue.PNG

Short description of error
I have noticed an issue with using the select tools. When I attempt to use a selection tool, while not in wireframe mode, or x ray mode, it selects everything behind the target object. I included the blender file, and a png of the issue. Since I noticed this issue, I have loaded older projects, and this occurs with all of them now.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Hum! Looks like some odd behavior...
Can you reproduced it, and gives the exact steps to produce the problem...
Also, File is created in Blender 2.8 it-self are you imports form some old file e.g. 2.7 and working on it?
Please tells how this happened, any your thoughts.

I attempted to reply via email, and just noticed the reply had failed.

The objects are entirely created within the 2.8 official release. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling blender, however, the uninstall does not really uninstall blender. I do not know if the files left after the uninstall process are the ones creating this issue, but, after I uninstall blender there are still a ton of "hidden files" left on my computer. When I reinstall blender, it starts with the same splash screen with all the same recent files listed. I think there is something wrong in one of the preferences that I cannot remove because it is affecting the earlier versions of blender as well. I tried loading my projects inside the prerelease versions of 2.8, and it is happening with all of them. Is there a way to completely strip blender from my computer without reformatting my hard drive? I may just reformat my hard drive.

I have recorded a video showing the issue. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/OwL5few8gHw

To reset the Blender, try:

  • Load Factory Setting & Saving Startup File:
    image.png
    & Also Preferences too:
    image.png
  • Try zip version (portable) of Blender:
    image.png
  • More over here is where Blender stores most of the file:
    C:\Users{{Your User Name}}\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender

I only just saw your reply, I have been offline for a couple days. I wanted to thank you for all of your assistance! Someone, much more experienced than I, gave me an explanation, and a work around for the issue I am having, on Grant Abbitt's discord server. And explained I had probably not noticed this previously, due to my lack of experience working with objects so close together. He provided these gifs for me. Again, thank you for your time.
BlenderSelectionTargeting.gif
**He gave this explanation for the first gif: When using the "C" selection tool with many close and tightly bound objects, Blender is taking into account the individual object's origin + the location of its edge, vertex, and face components.
The selection's targeting gets confused and will try to select objects that may not be remotely close to the one you want, just because it perceives it closer than it is.
However, if you Join (CTRL+J) all the objects together and use "C" selection, it will do a lot better on selecting the pieces you want. Once my internet starts working I will be submitting some GIFS to present.
BlenderIsolatedTargeting 02.gif
and this for the second: As you can see Deadhead Blender selects the objects in terms of their origin and what 'it' 'thinks' you want to select next, kind of like predicting.
It would be efficient to join your wall sidings and use Island selection in edit mode (L key) example below:
In my example, I hold down the 'L' key, and it behaves similarly to how the 'C' key should behave for non-constrict objects! Hope this helps you out. It's not a bug at least, it's normal!

IMO, It's Bug/Not, looking very odd to me!
Even latestversion: Blender 2.81 (sub 4) 2019-08-28 20:33 a7ac8a22f8
Behind Object Also Selects.blend
When you want to select (Object Mode) All object will be selected which are in Range (Box, Circle, Lasso Selection) even behind of some other object

Steps:
Open file & just select using B Box Selection
You will note:
image.png

Confusion:
What if user want to just select front object, not behind of objects?

Note:
In startup file, same.... Thanks

@lichtwerk , @WilliamReynish What you have thoughts about this?

Afaict, there is no way for objectmode selection tools to take occlusion into account.

This might be added at some point, but for the time being, this is not considered a bug.

If you want this pushed further, please use the "feedback" and "request" channels instead:
For requests and feedbacks please visit: https://wiki.blender.org/wiki/Communication/Contact#User_Feedback_and_Requests
For more information on why this isn't considered a bug, visit: https://wiki.blender.org/wiki/Reference/Not_a_bug

Thanx for the report anyways, but will close...
