System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.18362 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1070/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 431.86

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.81 (sub 12), branch: master, commit date: 2019-09-19 20:35, hash: c8df6f2cf9
Worked: Still works in 2.80.75 version.

Short description of error
Attempted to render via GPU with most recent version of 2.81.12, after successfully rendering in 2.80.75
First attempt generated an Error Message:
Cuda error at cuCtxCreate: Illegal Address

I down loaded the most recent NVIDIA Driver, (Studio version) which allowed me to do a CPU render but generated a failed version, mostly white with only the Billboard images rendering??09-19-2019_eevee-render_failure.zip This is the attached set of renders, with the failed version noted.
I have also uploaded a ZIP file of the packed .blend to my site, but it is 574mgs, so it must be downloaded to view.
It is currently being uploaded, should be available in 15 minutes.

I just tested it again, this time with the Default 'Load Factory Settings' with the same results. It will only render the Billboard Image planes, which are the small bushes and the clouds. Everything else is "White??"
Attached is an image of the Screen in the Solid Mode. Oddly, the tree and leaves show up in this view??
Beyond this 'hiccup' I am very pleased with the fine development by the Blender Team.Screen Shot 09-19-19 at 07.16 PM.PNG
Just tested it again, with the Cycles setting and Default GPU and get this with the Material Preview Mode

This is the second time that I found and 'odd' anomaly, which Blender 2.81.12 is doing on it's own. I have seen it twice, and corrected it both times.

This is the 'anomalous' node setup that shows up

This is how I correct it in 2.80.75

This is a second view of the Shader Window, with the newer 2.81.12 version.

Just a comment about the mapping node issue (havent looked at the other stuff...):

  • this happens when you open a file saved with the "new" mapping node [blender/blender-staging@baaa89a0bc] in a blender version prior to that commit... not much we can do here [it was decided that this compatibility breakage is acceptable]

@PaulHartsuyker Is this still an issue with latest build? https://builder.blender.org/download/

I have not seen a repeat of this problem lately. I will watch and test again as I continue with the scene, and let you know if it shows up again.

Thanks for info.

Thanks for info.

Just pulled out the 'test' version of the scene, and checked. I did not see any repeat of the problem, albeit it was a bit slow on the transition between render engines. This is on Blender 2.82.6, most recent build. Thanks for all of the 'bug' work, we all appreciate it.

It may be worth reporting, if it's not reported already, but I don't know how much time "slow" represents. It takes about 0.5s on my machine with Radeon card.

I appear to have spoken to quickly, as it isn't present in the 'small' test file I referenced, but remains in the full scene with the same ground planes. With Cycles as the render choice, the ground planes appears without fail, but when I switch to EeVee, the ground plane turns white. The only way to 'recover' the display, is to turn off the particle settings on both ground planes, at which point I can then turn them back on.

I can not download .blend file anymore - invalid link but shis reminded me of issue #73092 (Particle System Material preview error), not sure if that is applicable to your problem.

Please upload file to some stable storage (google drive or to this site), But please try to strip it of anything, that does not contribute to the issue - it is our standard requirement and report may be rejected for failing to do so.

This does appear to be the 'same' bug as noted by you. It is clearly related to Particle System Material preview, which I could correct by turning the Particles off, then back on. The test file that I had used for you (stripped down) operates correctly with current build of 2.82.6 (below) but has the same problem in the full file with the other character elements and environmental pieces. You can certainly close my case then fold it into the #73092 as my 'problem' file is entirely too big for your requirements. Thank you again.

Ok I will merge tasks, so you will be notified when problem is resolved so you can re-test and comment here or re-open if your issue persists.
