System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.18362-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 441.66

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.82 (sub 6), branch: master, commit date: 2019-12-21 17:23, hash: a0892bb690
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
When I have selected face in edit mode, then switch to vertex paint mode, enable face selection mask and try to use offset or gain slider in Levels tool the selection mask mode turns off and Levels tool affects on whole mesh but not only on selected face.
This bug don't appear when Face selection mask option in Vertex Paint mode was enabled before selecting face in edit mode, or when you select face for mask exactly in Vertex Paint mode by Lasso tool.

The same bug appears with Hue Saturation Value and Bright/Contrast.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Create new default scene with standard cube
  2. Enter edit mode and select face(faces)
  3. Enter vertex paint mode
  4. Turn on face selection mask or vertex selection mask
  5. Use Paint > Levels menu in Vertex Paint mode
  6. Use Offset or Gain slider of Levels tool

Based on the default startup file.

Thanks!!!

I can confirm that. This issue only happens if you havn't drawn anything before using the Paint->Level options (which can be found in the Header).

Maybe I'm blind, but can you show me where the Paint -> Level option is?
You can also make a short screen recording that shows the issue.

Make sure to use the latest builds from https://builder.blender.org/download/.

This looks like a duplicate of #69760 (Undo/Adjust Last Operation: vertex and weightpaint operators/strokes undo more then they should (change back any setting changed prior to execution)), will merge these reports...
