System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.18362 64 Bits
Graphics card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 620 Intel 4.5.0 - Build 24.20.100.6194

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.81 (sub 16), branch: master, commit date: 2019-12-04 11:32, hash: f1aa4d18d4
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
Official documentation claims that pressing CTRL+C will copy a ruler's value.
I was unable to reproduce this result.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Failure 1 (Edit mode):

Create any mesh object.
type t to open the tools.
Select measuring tape tool.
click close to a vertex to snap the measuring tape's first point to it.
hold CTRL and click near another vertex to measure the distance between them.
You get measurement.
Press CTRL+C.
Attempt to paste this value in a field. It will fail regardless of what mode you are in.

Failure 2 (Object mode):

Verify that this fails in object mode as well by measuring any space in object mode and as soon as you see the measurement, press CTRL+C. Attempt to paste this value in a field. It will fail.

Can confirm.

This seems like a relic of the old Ruler/Probotator from 2.79.
Codewise, there is nothing relating in km_3d_view_tool_measure and also elswhere, so it looks like this functionality just vanished...

@ideasman42 : are you aware (guess you are)? Do you want this back (port functionality from 2.79 and add to keymap)? Otherwise we'd probably just need to update documentation (remove Ctrl-C Copies the rulers value to the clipboard.)
Note these two are also irrelevant now:

  • Esc Exit tool.
  • Return Saves the rulers for the next time the tool is activated.

Keeping open for now (with low prio)

I will update documentation when we decide whether to back port the feature

So...what happened? Because this is a listed feature for 2.83. I tried to use 2.83 but it crashes on my computer. Did 2.82 get this fixed?

The tool is not really useful without this feature.
People are not complaining because they are using MeasureIt addon that has proper panels dedicated to that.
Next to it official ruler is not really interesting.

Problem is that Ctrl C shortcut is used to copy objects.
But a quick way to solve problem could be to add to Tool Settings bar a button to copy to value of active ruler to clipboard.
Ruler Tool has absolutely no use of Tool Settings bar/panel, currently.

If it is seen as an horrible transgression to UI rules, you could create a proper Rulers panel below Annotations panel in sidebar.
