Does it also crash after resetting the factory settings?

Yes, still crashing even after resetting the factory settings..

I am not able to reproduce it.

Is the crash when you select the tool, or is it when you use the tool. Are you using the default cube. what are the exact steps?

When I select the pose tool from the side menu after pressing T and click on it, it crashes. Even with the simplest of a mesh, like the default cube. The pose tool seems to be working fine in the earlier 2.82 build I was using, from 25th of Dec

Sorry if I didn't make it clear before. It crashes as soon as I click on the tool / brush Icon.

Update: The tool works all the way if you select the pose brush from the right side, the active tool and settings brush menu (as marked in the image below) but crashes if selected again from the icon on the left

Still not able to reproduce. Tried it on windows, linux, with the build bot build etc. I see that you use the studio drivers from nvidia. Can you check if it also crashes with the regular drivers.

You need to reest the brush settings or Blender's settings, I too had it crashing until I reset everything. A.jpg

Sure, let me try to install them. This problem came up only in this build though. All the ones before this have been working fine.. I also asked a person in a server to see if they can reproduce the error but it seems to be working for them. I guess it's just me then..

@Jeroen-Bakker The only obvious crash that may be happening after merging the IK pose brush is that the versioning code is not working, so it was trying to initialize a 0 length chain in the cursor preview after clicking on the icon (but it seems that it is set to 1 in those screenshots, so it should be working fine). I don't remember including anything related to the tool switching/selection code in that patch...

@PabloDobarro no think it is an platform issue, that is triggered by the change. OpenGL works different on all platforms with somewhat of a common understanding how it should work.

Same thing here, crashing on windows 10 by just clicking the pose brush tool in every case. i9, 2080, 64gb ram.

U could reproduce it by assigning a shortcut to the pose brush and execute it after doing a few strokes in the mesh with a different brush.
When u accede to the pose brush through that shortcut is when it will crash, it won't if u select it from the UI.
It's been happening since 2 2.82 Alpha builds ago. (9th and 8th) 7th seems OK.

Thanks

Not sure if it helps, but I did a couple tests and it seems to crash consistently if I use fast mouse movements after selecting the tool - if I move the mouse slow it doesn't crash Blender unless I click on the mesh using the tool.

Happens to me but only sporadically. Took a little bit of time to reproduce it. If I open the file, I can switch to the brush via assigned shortcut or the tools panel. It's only when I have done several actions; modesets, brushselects, brushstrokes, etc.

Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.18362-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500 Intel 4.4.0 - Build 20.19.15.5070

Hope this helps.

Still happening in 2.83 Alpha.
Is so annoying cause I use the brush all the time, I completely got used to it already :/

Also getting this crash (2.82 (sub 6), branch: master, commit date: 2020-01-13 17:12, hash: c56526d8b6 windows), even on a new scene.

Launch blender and switch to Sculpt mode and move the mouse off the Pose brush icon and boom!

I can also confirm that resetting the brush settings fixes the crash, although I couldn't see what actually changed in the brush settings panel.

I confirm, Win 10 x64 / Blender 2.83 Alpha (Hash 01d9a2171b56)
Opening Blender (original default scene), going in sculpt mode, clicking on the Pose brush on the left = crash.
No crash via the Dynamic context menu, or via the right panel Brush selector, and no more crash clicking on the left icon once brush settings are reset.

Had to load factory defaults because some addons were clashing and it solved this issue for me. Yay.

Please attach a .blend file to reproduce the issue even if it's just the default startup. If load factory settings helps, presumably there is something different than the current default and a .blend file helps us figure that out.

This may also be Windows specific, which often means uninitialized variable access that can be detected with address sanitizer or valgrind.

Marking with 2.82 milestone, in case the pose brush is really crashing for many Windows users by default.

Hi Brecht, I've attached a default file (2.83), still crashing with pose brush when you click on it, even with restoring factory settings

I confirmed this is the same issue as #73054, for which there is a patch to fix.

I can confirm the crash (win 10, GTX 1060 6gb)
Resetting the pose brush (pose IK segments are at 0 in that file) helps with that object. But it still crashes when I try to use it on a plane or generally a non manifold mesh, as soon as I hover the cursor over that object.

Same here. After selecting object and changing workpace to "sculpting", i'm selecting Pose brush, and when the brush "touches" the selected object, Blender crashes.
