Blender Crash When Using Cycles GPU Compute #73008

I'm very new to blender and am trying to follow a beginners tutorial but the person who made the video said to use GPU compute for rendering. I recently got a RX 5700 XT for Christmas and figured it's powerful enough for this sort of thing. I'm trying to see what my scene looks like before I output it. CPU rendering works fine with Cycles, but as soon as I switch to GPU compute blender hangs indefinitely. I tried searching the web but I can only find issues dating around to this cards release date. Its the new year and I'm still having the same problem. Is there an issue I'm unaware of or can I get this fixed?

Currently running Blender 2.81a
I attached a video of the issue occurring.

Issue Video: Troubleshoot.mp4
In event viewer I get the error "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered." Event ID 4101

I know it appears stuck, but have you given it like ten minutes to be sure? It might be going first-time kernel compilation or some such thing that could take a minute or more. I don't have one so I don't know what's normal.

Also can you try enabling GPU Compute when you're NOT in rendered display mode? Then try an F12 render rather than rendered display mode.

There were numerous issues around the release of these cards as you discovered. You should definitely install the latest (or at least a documented as working with Blender) version of the drivers on the off-chance you haven't tried that already.

This is a known issue #65924 (Cycles Render Crash Windows/AMD RX Vega). Not blender related as it works as long as TDR isn't enabled for the card. That actually means that no display can be attached to the device. AMD is aware of the issue and are looking into it.

Thank you for the replys. I wasn't sure if the newer architecture made any difference.

I did some test today Windows/rx 5700 and it did work good. can you attach your system-info.txt generated from blenders` Help menu?

BTW OpenCL needs to compile the kernels before you see something. This can take upto a minute. You can open the Windows console to see the progress. Not sure if that is what you are finding a bug.

Here is the system-info you wanted system-info.txt
Sometimes i can get past the part of switching to GPU compute by playing a youtube video while the window is not responding which is odd and its done this more than once. However I have never been able to get Rendering with the GPU to work.
