System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.17763-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1070/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 442.19

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83 (sub 12), branch: master, commit date: 2020-04-07 15:14, hash: c5ed2eb95e
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
paths are not visible in the viewport because they're obscured by the grid floor and axis lines.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
create a path with overlays on. You cant see it unless you go in to edit mode.

It's a curve object type.

This didn't really worked well even in 2.79, but now it's definitely worse... I guess I will leave this to UI team to triage.

Oh I thought it was some custom object.

I was just about to send a report because of this issue that exists since the first version of 2.80
Funny enough I found this here, so I can add a video showing this problem (captured in the very latest 2.90 master, all previous versions of 2.8x behave in the same way):

Curve_Path.0001-0530.mp4

Additional info: You don't need to go into edit mode to see the path / curve. Changing the view angle reveals the curve, too.
This is all with the default theme, no addons or third-party stuff needed, just vanilla Blender.

From the interface point of view, I don't see a reason for the grid to overlap wire objects.
In fact, the grid itself does not overlap wire objects, only the red and green lines.
The question is whether this is a known limitation or a bug.

@fclem, can you give a light?
