Ctrl + S or press save, does not open a temporary window. It is the same window but with another layout.
If you press the corner X in this situation, you may be actually closing the blender and not crashing it.
Please make sure that this is not the case.
in blender 2.82a when I press command s to save a file browser pops up. but in 2.83 when I press cancel, blender turns black and I have to force quit it. the same thing happens if I try to render. in 2.82a it pops up a window that is about 1/4 the size of the screen, but in 2.83 it pops up a window that is fullscreen and when I close it it crashes blender. I can't resize the window and the temporary window is set to new window not fullscreen. i can send a video if you like

The workaround is to set the "Temporary Windows" setting to "Full Screen" (in fact, it's not full-screen mode, it's maximized area).
thanks!
