System Information
Operating system: Linux-5.6.19-300.fc32.x86_64-x86_64-with-fedora-32-Thirty_Two 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 440.82

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83.0, branch: master, commit date: 2020-06-03 14:38, hash: 211b6c29f7
Worked: 2.82

Short description of error
Sound strip problem when cut then slide a strip.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Random issue
1- Put a strip in the timeline.
2- Generate cache in a directory. ( proxy cache, no special parameter, 25% )
3- Cut a strip then slide along the timeline.
4- Now sometimes the sound plays as if the strip isn't cut and slided !

Note : power sequencer is enabled and bug disappear when blender restart

Default startup file in video editing mode. Any strip.

I check logs put nothing appear too.

UPDATE

Bug seem related to linux, only.

@NiceMicro steps !

Steps I took:

  1. I loaded a project with the following strips one strip video (corresponding audio track has been deleted) with a transform strip, an other video strip and its corresponding audio strip.

  2. Cut all the video strips at the same position and cut the audio strip before the video strips.

  3. Strips before (left to) the cut has been deleted, and the right hand side strips moved to the left.

    • These steps didn't result in the bug, not even after several similar moves but when:

  4. I cut the video and audio strips at the middle somewhere,

  5. shrink the left side strips by their right side handle,

  6. then move the right side strips somewhere else,

    • the bug appeared, in which, when I play the project, the sound that plays is a mix between the current position of the audio strip and also the previous position.
An other interesting observation is that if I do undo and redo at the step this error appears, it disappears.

I adding an observation, if you reduce volume of an audio strip, the audio in the buggy section appear loud ( as if volume is 1 )

2- Generate cache in a directory.

Do you mean disk cache or proxies? is this step necessary?

Sounds same as #77535

I make some other test and I can update :

The issue appear without power sequencer too so it isn't a add-on issue.
I don't know if without proxy cache ( custom directory ), it's the same...

I make some test with an open movie and packed strips.

Yes it's the same as #77535, I figure out.

Thanks for details, I see that both issues are reported on Linux system so that may be part of the issue. Can you tell me approximately how often this happens? Like 1 in 10 times or something along those lines?

Thanks for your interest, I think it happens not truly randomly, I observe this issue ( with more investigation ) each time I cut ( or hard cut ) and try to resize the strip. But if I just slide trips it's ok, the same if I cut only. So when I edit very long sequence I must restart blender every 2 min.

So can you please update steps to reproduce, so I can check on linux? This resizin thing is new. do I have to grab strip handle and make it shorter?

Hello, sorry for the delay...

Unfortunately, I try to reproduce the issue with a short footage of Spring but without result...

It's very strange... I'll retry when I have more time, but I have some doubt that is blender related maybe it's audio driver or something like that. I'll try with jack audio too

Thanks for looking into this. It may be some problem with audio driver or even audio system in Blender. This report may be closed if there is no activity within a week but if you find a way to reproduce it, feel free to comment so we can reopen or make new report.

Hi!
I have experienced the same problem with Blender 2.83.1-1 on Arch Linux (5.7.7-arch1-1) on my machine with a GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card.

Steps I took:

  1. I loaded a project with the following strips one strip video (corresponding audio track has been deleted) with a transform strip, an other video strip and its corresponding audio strip.

  2. Cut all the video strips at the same position and cut the audio strip before the video strips.

  4. I cut the video and audio strips at the middle somewhere,

  5. shrink the left side strips by their right side handle,

  6. then move the right side strips somewhere else,

An other interesting observation is that if I do undo and redo at the step this error appears, it disappears.

I hope I gave some useful information to catch this bug!

@NiceMicro Thank you for these steps ! A question, is the lenght of strips is important or not ? Because with very small strips is difficult to find the bug...

Issue updated !

I got second report with steps I was able to reproduce, so I will merge this one.
