test_painting.blend
HI,
System Information
Operating system: windows 10
Graphics card: nvidia 2080gtx
Blender Version
Broken: 2.90.0 (from the 07-12 release at least)
Worked: 2.83.2
Short description of error
'material preview' : painting stop to be displayed few time after the beginning of the stroke (with fading) and reappear at the end of the stroke when the LMB was released.
'solid' preview : painting works normally
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
try to paint on the attached file in both preview mode and you will see the problem
Thanks.

I can't reproduce this. Are you using tablet, or does this happen using mouse as well?

it happens both with mouse and tablet, not in 2.83 but in the last 2.9 version (a mouse was used for these video)
I just find that the issue occurs when the stroke is slow, a quick stroke is ok but not really usable of course (no control and no smoothed curve but this is another problem I think ...)

I can reproduce it, there seems to be some kind of mouse movement threshold. Still have to investigate it a bit more.
ok, after some tests (2.91 version) it appears that the issue occurs when one of the following tab is used (converted with the object interaction mode selection menu) for painting : layout, modeling, shading. With the native painting tab and other tabs (when painting mode is selectable) there is no problem apparently.
Hi, seems to be fixed, thanks.
