Export UV Layout doesn't respect UVs alpha #79438

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 442.74

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83.1, branch: master, commit date: 2020-06-25 09:47, hash: 8289fc688b (also tried with 2.90 Beta right before submitting this report).
Worked: I know for sure it worked in 2.79.

Short description of error
When using the "Export UV Layout" option from the UV menu in the UV Editor, the UVs are exported, but the image exported doesn't have a transparent background (when exporting in .png format) - it displays a dark grey background behind the UVs. Chaing the Fill option during export affects the faces, but nothing changes in the background. Having a background renders the UVs image useless, as it can't be overlapped on textures/images easily in an Image Editor.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Create an object with UVs.
  2. Go to the UV Editor.
  3. In the UV Menu, use "Export UV Layout" option.
  4. Export as .png.

Current "workaround"
It's not that big of a deal, as apparently .svg works fine, but some software doesn't work well with vectors, and may require an extra step to convert the .svg into a raster image format like .png.

Decided to report because I think it's not the expected behavior of an UV layout image to have a background (been using that option for years, and it was always transparent in previous Blender versions since I can remember!).

Thanks!!

Hi Oliver,

I am also experiencing this issue, and I may have found a workaround. In the UV Editor, there is a "Face" checkbox in the Display menu under Overlays. When I unchecked this option, my UVs exported with an alpha background. I'll post a picture here.

Let me know if this works!
