Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1060/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 451.67
Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.91.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2020-08-07 20:53, hash:
994ab8985b
Worked: 2.80
Short description of error
Folders cannot be accessed when using the file browser.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
When using the file browser and selecting a volume, the folders appear but cannot be opened. Manually pressing the "Next Folder" button simply refreshes the view and doesn't seem to go into the folders. The same issue occurs when browsing folders in the Shading layout but doesn't apply to folders that are accessed via a popup window (Open, Import, or dragging files in works fine). The same issue occurred in the 2.90 release.

It is unclear how you are trying to open the folder, Enter and Double-Click seems to work correctly.
The "Next Folder" and "Previous Folder" go through the history, "Next Folder" should not open the selected folder.
Check your Keymap in the Preferences. Try the Load Factory Preferences.
I've been trying to double-click and Enter but it doesn't seem to work for me; even after a factory reset.
I was starting to think that it might be system specific but I just tried running the latest 2.83.4 and the navigation works fine.
In 2.90.0 and 2.91.0 the rollover and selection highlighting work but it just doesn't seem to go through into the folder. But then again, it might be a system-specific issue.

There is also "File Path" above, try typing the folder path here.
You can also try run Blender from Command Prompt and see if there will be any errors when trying to open the folder.

I encountered the same problem. Can't open any folder in File Browser.
Double-click or Enter doesn't work.

Can not reproduce with

Does this happen when you click on File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings?
