I see this when I open provided file, but I guess that would be different problem?

Richard, That seems to be the viewport is damaged problem from another report that occurs occasionally (in my case the problem does not occur for now with this file).

About this report, I am not sure if it is due to a bug. To see through objects it is necessary to enable X-Ray mode.

I was able to open file in older version and I see the issue now. I think this has been reported already, but I can't find the report.
In my opinion, this is correct behavior though.

@AgainNon , You have a couple of options for working in Edit mode in these cases. Globally enable X-Ray mode in Viewport. Or from Viewport Display from object properties choose "In front". Or isolate the object with "/" (slash) from numpad keyboard.

Still I would like to ask @fclem or @Jeroen-Bakker, because if I have a "real" material using Alpha Blend and look at this in Material Preview shading mode, the editmode overlays are drawn on top

But in Solid shading mode (using the objects Viewport Display Settings instead), the editmode overlays are hidden

Just checking if this is intentional (might be for performance reasons?)

Well actually it's a mix of performance and feature. Because of the outline effect that workbench can produce we need to write the to depth buffer. We could disable this when outline is not needed but then you have a discrepancy between the options and you would loose the occlusion for all the other overlays (like the grid).

So I would say it's a known issue.
