Broken: 2.90 "stable release"

Short description of error
Addon section of the User Perferences becomes blanc after failed add-on install attempt;
Only removing the .py file from
C:\Users\USER-NAME-REPLACED\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.90\scripts\addons
helps to restore the Addon section in the user preferences

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
because I found no option in Blender 2.90 to deactivate the "Quit prompt",
I wrote a script to add that functionality through calling sys.exit()
When running that script from within the Blender>TextEditor the script runs fine (after pressing the added Exit Button, Blender correctly exits without prompting for a keypress).
But when installing it from a file, the "Addon" section within the "Preferences" window completely disappears after Blender is restarted.
